About us

Welcome to Namakate Aquatics

Hi, my name is Izak, and I just want to say thank you for visiting our website. I am the owner of Namakate Aquatics, a registered commercial ornamental fish farm specializing in the culturing of Lake Malawian cichlids in Namibia since 2017. Namakate Aquatics cultures over fifty-seven different varieties of species endemic to Lake Malawi commercially. We only supply wholesale to aquatic stores in Namibia. We are also registered as a sole importer of Lake Malawian cichlids with the Namibian Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries. My love for Lake Malawian cichlids started during the year of 2002 in South Africa after visiting my local aquatic store, where I purchased my first "mbuna" species. They do have a special place in my heart. My passion is to culture Lake Malawian cichlids as a naturalist. I have over twenty-four years of experience culturing these unique fish from Lake Malawi, thirteen of which were spent selling directly as retail in South Africa under my previous business, Mbuna Aquatics. My passion for these unique species of fish never ends. In my spare time I author articles and compose scientific work for the Blue Earth Institution as a board member. The Blue Earth Institution is a Danish-owned NGO registered with the United Nations for focusing on the preservation of Lake Malawi cichlids. The preservation of Lake Malawi cichlids is of paramount importance in today's world, where the lake, as a functioning ecosystem, is in decline year after year. Looking back in hindsight, the lake is slowly fading away.

Yes, I am a cichlidophile and hopefully will remain one for many years to come.
